HO EMD F40PH Amtrak Phase III (Road Name & DCC Options) HO EMD F40PH Amtrak Phase III (Road Name & DCC Options)
Designed for use in Amtrak's inner-city lines, the F40PH series of locomotives was ordered as a replacement for the EMD SDP40F type, Amtrak's first series of locomotives built new for them since its inception in 1971. To support passenger service, the F40PH is equipped with a secondary electrical generator referred to as the head end generator (or HEP, for Head End Power). The need for constant constant frequency power means that these HEP units are constantly running at 900rpm, resulting in the nickname "Screamers" for the units due to the sound.

HO EMD F40PH Chicago RTA (Road Names & DCC Options) HO EMD F40PH Chicago RTA (Road Names & DCC Options)
Second only to Amtrak's now-retired fleet, Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority (now known as Metra), owns the largest number of F40PH locomotives. Replacing aged E and F units, these light blue locomotives could be seen pulling Chicago & North Western Bi-Level commuter cars for several years as the passenger car fleet was gradually repainted in RTA colors.

HO EMD SD38-2 Duluth Missabe & Iron Road #212 (DCC & Sound Upgrade Option) HO EMD SD38-2 Duluth Missabe & Iron Road #212 (DCC & Sound Upgrade Option)
Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range, with an attractive maroon and gold "Arrowhead" scheme, is the largest and most well-known iron ore railroad. The DM&IR hauls ore extensively out of the mines of northern Minnesota, connecting at one time or another with CN, BN, UP and others. When one thinks of long strings of Iron Ore or Taconite cars, they think of DM&IR.

HO EMD SD38-2 EJ&E #660 (DCC Upgrade Option) HO EMD SD38-2 EJ&E #660 (DCC Upgrade Option)
The Elgin Joliet & Eastern promotes itself as "Chicago's Outer Belt," circling around Chicago to give itself a large advantage over other carriers that must pass through congested Chicago railyards. Because of this, it is common to see many different kinds of trains and equipment taking the "short cut" around, not through, Chicago. The EJ&E also regularly provides service to the many Chicago area steel mills, particularly with their widely recognized steel coil cars. The EJ&E interchanges with virtually every other railroad that comes through Chicago.

HO EMD SD38-2 US Steel #1 (DCC Upgrade Optional) HO EMD SD38-2 US Steel #1 (DCC Upgrade Optional)
US Steel has operated coal and iron ore mines and steel mills for many decades. One of these facilities, in southwestern Pennsylvania, is known as the Cumberland Mine. This coal mine is actually an isolated operation, requiring transfer of coal from mine to river dock by rail. While US Steel #1 has never left the Cumberland Mine operation in real life, "modeler's license" will allow hobbyists to "lease" or "transfer" this motive power to the steel facilities on their own model railroad.

HO EMD SD38-2 Union Pacific "Bolt" (Road Names & DCC Options) HO EMD SD38-2 Union Pacific "Bolt" (Road Names & DCC Options)
Union Pacific was not an original purchaser of the SD38-2 but now owns the largest fleet in the nation due to merger (C&NW & SP) and purchase from other railroads (C&IM and McCloud). Happy with the success of these locomotives, UP has also rebuilt former Missouri Pacific SD40-2 locomotives to SD38-2 specifications. Our models represent two variations in the UP roster with different truck sideframes, fuel tank sizes, and dynamic or non-dynamic brakes as appropriate to each road number. Two locomotives, in the Standard paint scheme, are former C&IM locomotives while the other two are former SP locomotives in a special "Mini-Wings" paint scheme applied for a short time as these locomotives were repainted for their new owner. UP's SD38-2 locomotives can be found in yard duty all over the system.

HO EMD SD40-2 Mid AT&SF (DCC Upgrade Option) HO EMD SD40-2 Mid AT&SF (DCC Upgrade Option)
In early 1988, Santa Fe began relocating the headlights on its power from above the cab windows to the nose in an attempt to reduce glare reflected into the cab during foggy or blizzard conditions. This made the Mid Production Santa Fe SD40-2s (and their descendents in the BNSF) different in form to their cousins. Over the years, other changes were made, including the migration of the airhorn further away from the cab and the installation of air condinioners to make the operation of their SD40-2s a more pleasant experience for the crew.

HO EMD SD40-2 Mid BN "White Face" (DCC Upgrade Option) HO EMD SD40-2 Mid BN "White Face" (DCC Upgrade Option)
The BN amassed a fleet of 827 SD40-2's between 1972 and 1980. They started out hauling coal trains out of Wyoming's Powder River Basin and then started moving transcontinental freight between the West Coast and the Midwest. Because of its extremely long production run, there were many variations of this popular diesel.

HO EMD SD40-2 Mid BNSF "Swoosh" #6752 (DCC Upgrade Option) HO EMD SD40-2 Mid BNSF "Swoosh" #6752 (DCC Upgrade Option)
The new "Swoosh" logo (known by a variety of names, including "Heritage III" and "Bold Heritage"), is the new face of the railroad-formerly-known-as the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe. Now simply "BNSF", the paint scheme is indicative of the company's new philosophy towards its progressive and vital role in the public eye; new paint and a new image for a new era.
